24 Days Till Open Studios!

24 days until the Placer Artists Studio Tour event.

My studio is open Nov 10th, 11th, and 12th

I am so excited! I am showing my artwork again this year,  on the first weekend of the Tour event.  Artists have the option to show one weekend or two and I will only show the first weekend. Do stop by if you can!

And I am so not ready today!  So what am I doing to get ready? Well, procrastinating! Just what got me to this not-so-ready state of affairs so close to the event?

I did say I would share some of my art journey with you so this morning I am writing this blog post. I am also writing this for me as a countdown and a reminder of what I need to get done to get myself and my work ready.

Work this past year wasn’t as prolific as I would like. I would like to have more ready to show you.  What is ready or will be ready in 24 days I am proud of and I hope you can stop by and visit.  I have five paintings sitting here in my studio in the almost done stage and waiting to be  finished.

Once I am satisfied with a work and consider it done, it isn’t finished. There is a difference.

  • As I work in acrylic mixed media I need to make sure a work is sealed.

  • Next I decide the final coat whether it will be varnish or wax. And still it isn’t finished.

  • Once in a while an extra step comes in here, deciding do I want the painting framed.

Getting ready for an event doesn’t end with paintings that are now done and finished.  Oh no, not  yet.

There are still the administrative steps. I usually need to decide on a title at this point.  Sometimes I know a title as I am painting a piece but often I don’t know what a title may be. All data concerning a work are entered on a log of my paintings, with details like  title, size, price, date completed and such. A label of authenticity for the back of each work needs to be created, the hanging system and if needed for an event or show a label that is posted next to the work is created.

So. As of today with 24 days to go I have paintings to paint, paintings needing finishing work and still I won’t be ready for set-up day.  Of course I hope to sell some of my work so I need to check out the credit card payment systems, find my receipts book, my sign-in pages and clean out and set up my gallery space.

Yep, I have to do that as I set up for this event in half of my garage. My studio is up a flight of stairs and is small and so I create a gallery space that is accessible to all.

And ya know what? It is all worth it! I love sharing my work with you.  I enjoy listening to what people have to say and answering questions they may have. And I cannot deny it, it is always a thrill, a privilege and an honor when someone buys an artwork of mine to hang in their space.  That is very special, very special indeed.

I do hope you can make it to my gallery,
