Autumn Wrap Up
It’s Almost Winter!
It’s just a few days from the first day of winter and I thought I’d drop into my blog space to do a wrap up of this Autumn season, 2025.
With the gift giving season coming up fast and three days of open studio in my Gay’s Garage Gallery Through Placer Artists Tour (see more on this below) I created several 6 x 6 inch mixed media wooden panels for sale. This is one of them.
OH! A mixed media piece on wood panel, 6 × 6 inches
Placer Artists Tour
The Placer Artists Tour is a popular, free, self-guided event in Placer County, California, started by Helen Phillips in 1994, that connects local artists with the public over two autumn weekends in November. There is a catalog made each year with artist media, address and a postage stamp sized image of their work. A map of the area is included with each artist’ spot marked.
This annual event has grown to feature over 100 artists, providing a platform for artists to sell to sell their work, share processes, and it mentors emerging talents, making it a significant cultural fixture in the Sierra Foothills.
Gay’s Gallery Garage recap
November 7, 8, and 9th, was a fine three days, weather-wise. As in past years I opted to open only the first weekend of the event. My attendance was much the same as prior years.
I had no sales which was disappointing (hint more did happen…) but I did have terrific conversations with so many who come by each year to view my work.
Arcanum
Folks loved the movement of the colors and lines
Imagine the Journey
“it’s so interesting how my eye travels through this piece.
On Saturday morning a couple stopped by. They had liked the picture of my work in the Tour catalog.
We talked about my work and process and there were a couple of pieces they remarked that they like a lot.
And that led to:
A Commission for a Gay Jegers Art piece!
Would I create a large painting for their entry hall? I haven’t done a commissioned work before so we talked about sized, colors and prices. I said I would look into what goes into a commission agreement and get back to them.
A week later, contract in hand for one work and my task, eh, commission, was upped to two large works!
Yes, I’ll be creating two works for their entry hall. One is to be 48 x 48 inches and the second is even larger, 60 x 48 inches.
A new path, commissions.
I am so excited! I am sketching, color swatching, and organizing my studio while I wait for the newly ordered supplies to arrive. I’m getting prepared to paint!
If you are interested in exploring a commission contact me. I am new to commissioned work and I can’t rule out I will do it again. Perhaps for you?
Recently Sold
And during November I sold this painting from the Auburn Old Town Gallery, a coop that I am now a member of.
Town and Country a 12 × 12 inch piece, framed, on wood panel, I named it Town and Country because the dark sections at the bottom reminded me of a skyline and the born and green makes of fields, streams and the woods/
And that’s a wrap for this past November. It was a very good month!
Till the next time,
Gay
